John Wycliffe was born sometime before 1330 and was ordained a Catholic priest in 1351. Wycliffe is referred to as the “the morning star of the reformation” because he translated the Bible into English, and he rejected the doctrine that tradition is equal in authority with the Scriptures. He also abandoned the teaching of transubstantiation and indulgences.
What is remarkable about John Wycliffe is that his ministry was two hundred years before, William Tyndale, Martin Luther and John Calvin. Wycliffe’s translation of the Bible into English was published in 1382. John Wycliffe died of natural causes on December 31, 1384.
